About the Board
The Sefa Board governs the organisation’s strategy, risk, compliance, performance, and overall direction. The Board is currently comprised of six directors, including representatives from our majority
owner, the NSW Aboriginal Land Council, a significant shareholder, and one independent director.
We are now recruiting for two additional directors.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking purpose-driven, commercially savvy individuals who are culturally aligned, strategic, and ready to contribute actively to the future direction of the company. You will bring curiosity,
clarity, and commitment to your role and participate fully in board and relevant committee activity. You will have a growth mindset, a desire to learn, plus a collaborative and ethical approach to
decision-making. Above all, you will seek to uphold Sefa’s values, the Board’s Code of Conduct, and always treat others with respect and honesty.
Critical Director Responsibilities
It is the duty of all Board directors to:
act with care and diligence;
act in good faith;
not to improperly use information;
not to improperly use their position;
to declare a conflict of interest;
to prevent insolvent trading of the Company;
be a positive role model and follow the Sefa Board’s Code of Conduct.
All candidates are also expected to:
Uphold the values and mission of Sefa.
Provide oversight across strategy, risk, compliance, and financial stewardship.
Support the building of strategic relationships with partners, investors, and clients.
Ensure accountability to stakeholders and alignment with our constitution and regulatory requirements.
Actively participate in Board meetings, relevant subcommittees, and strategic workshops.
Maintain and model ethical leadership and adherence to the Board’s Code of Conduct.
Board Skill Critical Priorities
You must bring one or more of the following priority skills:
Risk & Compliance Oversight – a strong understanding of financial, operational, or regulatory risk and be equipped to contribute to Sefa’s Audit & Risk Committee. Familiarity with the Australian
Financial Services Licence (AFSL) environment or financial lending is desirable.Strategy & Transformation – a big-picture thinker who understands how to navigate complex environments. You have experience driving strategic change and organisational transformation.
Legal Services Oversight – you hold qualifications in law and can confidently oversee legal risk and the performance of legal service providers.
Board Skill Desirable Skills
In addition, skills and experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable but not critical.
Brand Management & Reputation – understanding of how to shape, protect, and enhance Sefa’s brand, public image, and stakeholder trust through strategic communication and
positioning.Strategy Technology – Understanding of the risks and opportunities associated with emerging technologies (ie Cyber Security, AI) and digital transformation to drive innovation, efficiency, and competitive advantage.
Marketing – expertise in market positioning, audience engagement, and lead generation.

Location
Sydney-based preferred, but open to remote candidates with capacity for in-person engagements.

Board meetings
Annual strategy session

Remuneration
This is a modestly paid role, with reimbursement for approved expenses and relevant professional development.
